“YouTube, currently home to mainstreamer’s with generic content
that is overtly regurgitated by numerous monetized accounts in hopes of raking
in the green while having the audacity to ask for a subscribe or thumbs up."
I am thoroughly disgusted; particularly with those who have
chosen the conventional. YouTube, is a space to share your creativity in a
mostly visual manner that has given many the opportunity to grow themselves in
various categories and also to have built their social stature to the point that they were
able to deviate away and successfully brand their individual
endeavors based on their YouTube careers, others have found a way of using
their massive social media presence to benefit in charitable ways. However,
today my interest lies within the Kenyan YouTubers community which in my opinion has fallen short as of recent due to the
lack luster recycled content. Africa has been constantly affiliated with
poverty, violence and social injustice and through this social platform we have
the capacity to amend the poor international image portrayed by mass media
coverage of political spectacles and constant suffering through the array of talent our people posses or even by drawing more attention to these issues and sharing our solutions and in this way mobilize a mass of willing helpers,
conversely, by the looks of the content flooding the Kenyan You Tube community, we
seem to have a backward mentality towards this and are rather more interested
in raking in the glory and income -with appreciation to Google AdSense and ten
minute bench marks- that comes with perpetuating popular mainstream content.
Targeting those who wish to have a successful YouTube
career and claim to want and or make a significant change, this is a plea to not give into to the preconceived notion that being
basic and constantly transformative to the ever-changing tide of trends is the way to go, but in
reality it is reprehensible. What we need in the Kenyan You Tube community is
new exciting content that is authentic and not driven by the greed, instant
fame and entitlement commonly perceived on instagram and idealistic youth self indoctrinated social platforms. As for those who have inadvertently chosen this
conduit and met the static growth and possible deterioration of your plausible
YouTube career, the progression of your channel will remain at its’ stagnant
plateau hence further your denouement in zeal until the regurgitation stops.
Leave the copy, pasting for the comment section; even there its’ presence is
hostile and un-welcome. Your content is a reflection of yourself, your ingenuity
and how you in cooperate it into meaningful entertainment or informative
pieces. If here is where you fall short its’ promptly time for a personal
assessment and re-evaluation of what you are sharing with the community. Your
inclination towards the exponential growth of your channel should stem from
originality and purpose behind your videos. In other words the constant spewing
of challenges, pornographic thumbnails and meaningless click bait (most You Tuber's do but to an extent) are tantamount to attention seeking
irrelevance, that can only take you so far and has unfortunately plagued
the website and minds of Kenyan YouTubers on how to succeed and get that ‘YouTube money’. My concern lies within the misleading group of people who have mitigated this platform into a cash cow and continue to think
that their indolence is acceptable. From their videos: the lack of effort is
evident, unoriginality present and the self-entitlement to viewer’s positive
feedback- when they haven’t brought anything worthy of a subscribe – leads to a
substantial amount of dislikes and possibly less views if you lack a larger
audience on differing social media platforms (in some cases possibly just genuine
disinterest).
As for those who still believe in their inaugural method of
generics, unless you have a demanding media presence to ricochet yourself to
the top of the ladder and possibly a minor subject base for your channel, or have fully mastered the art of clickbait and the highest ranking in enticing thumbnails while working alongside already popular You Tubers, then take
several seats and stop enforcing such standards upon yourself.
Tiye, you deserve like a million hi-5s for this! You need to assist me in writing all of my essays. *whispers world lit softly* Anyway, great job, but (small but, kind of) I think that this should get out there faster. Maybe a video or something, but hey... i'm just speculating. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But seriously though, this post needs just a small push to get it 'out there'
ReplyDeleteThank you Pierre I am glad that you liked it. A YouTube channel is something that I have thought about before but with the new with the work load of college I probably won't manage, also with regards to the new policies and regulations within the YouTUbe community I am not so sure I want to be involved. I am working on getting my content more out there through different platforms in the meantime.
