"This generation is too
rebellious, desensitized, unfocused, impatient, dubious and overtly footloose
to the responsibilities of adult hood and mandates of their betters."
Are you ominously biting your fingernails yet? You
should be because the up rising has just begun. Be it within our choice of
fashion, political views, beliefs and dietary shifts (My mother still questions the principles of veganism) we know how to influence our generation by the masses. Anyways, my inclination is towards politics today.
Indoctrinations of the past are being lapped up by the salty waves of a youth
trying to establish a paradigm shift of power in our favor to instill our
opinions of what we determine is right and just. And as expected the opposing force
of inertia exerted by the elder generation has left our visions running off the
edge of a cliff.
Apparently we are too bold; too brash to understand the
consequences of our decisions and words, so our opinions are constantly
over-looked; swept under the rug and stamped with society's prescribed recycled
mandate to belittle us and predetermine our ideas and concepts as 'juvenile'
and 'too modern'. In this process we stifle some of the preconceived thoughts of the youth on
imperative social matters, that perhaps could have been brilliant solutions or
astounding revelations. Most of the time, I don't blame them. We are evolving at an alarming rate, many forgetting their roots. Societal
norms are being redefined by the new liberal generation, while the elder
generation is trying its' best to enforce their previous philosophies onto us
in hopes of preserving a culture that has been determined as
toxic, harboring masqueraded sexism and corruption in the form of 'African culture'. In attempt at shunning our outspoken behaviour, some have deemed us
as a ‘Western indoctrinated society’ simply because in the past many of us had
turned a blind eye towards the political field; too wrapped up in matters of
tribalism and petty disputes to see beyond. But now we are compared to American citizens, known for there boisterous outbursts and opposition to systematic subjugations by their society's more advantaged (and on issues that are blown out of proportion for absolute no reason, RIP Harambee). Now that we live in a day and
age of information exchange and enlightenment it’s
becoming more difficult to visor the people’s attention with futile propaganda.
In retrospect of the old generation, we must give
credit where due, after all they had built the foundation of our government and
with guiding hands, overseen its’ construction to what it is today. They have
experience and understanding of the hierarchical structures, which leaves us –
the bleary eyed and naive optimists- at a disadvantage. Our sense of
entitlement and constant theoretical thinking in developing strategics (due to the majority of our generations lack of communication within our roots) would be considered
narrow minded in the eyes of current and previous government officials or
parliamentarians who approach the field with a more hands on methodology: reaching out, communicating, building
stature and mobilizing units to get the job done. So of course any new comer to
the game would be heavily criticized, or it could be because of our threatening
anterior: canines bared, hungry for social justice and equality and the ability to
cause a massive uproar from a single tap of a button showing our repulsion
towards backward traditional mentalities, or is it our tongues, swords able to
lacerate through the conniving patriarchal fabric of corrupt authoritative figures and reveal dark hidden agenda's. Our united front and joint métier are probably the most dangerous force to encounter; therefore we are
constantly being pried apart by narcissistic political archaic structures, and just when you think we have hit the age of enlightenment, you turn around, only
to discover our brethren have fallen for the same crap: same message, different packaging and topped with a shiny new bow.
If you haven't noticed we're approaching the system
with a Chinua Achebe philosophical idea on how to make our country great again.
It's sweet and full of good intent but impractical and not in the
best interest of many. Evoked bitterness from hate speech and blinded by
superficial barriers (tribalism, social class etc.) counteract our claims of unity and are obviously a diplomats conjured fallacy.
